Requesting funding takes one form and one short presentation. Here's the full path from idea to decision.
Step 1: Check the guidelines
Before anything else, skim the funding guidelines. A few things — like food costs — can't be funded, and knowing that up front saves everyone time.
Step 2: Submit the form
Fill out the funding request form on this site. Requests are reviewed in the order they come in, so submit as early as you can — especially if your event has a fixed date. Since decisions take 2–3 weeks, aim to submit at least 4 weeks before your event.
Requesting more than $200 as an outside organization? That's allowed — just include a detailed written justification for the amount with your request. Without one, the request is returned for revision, which costs you a week or two.
Step 3: We contact you
Within 1–2 days, the Senate will email you to schedule your presentation at an upcoming meeting.
Step 4: Present at a Senate meeting
Prepare a 3–5 minute visual presentation about your request. You'll give it at a weekly Senate meeting:
- When: Thursdays, 6:00–7:30pm
- Where: Social Sciences 1, Room 261
Keep it simple. Tell us what you're planning, who it's for, what it costs, and how it connects to College Nine.
What makes a strong presentation
- A clear, itemized budget — where each dollar goes
- Who benefits, and how College Nine affiliates are included
- Realistic numbers for attendance and costs
- Slides or visuals that support your points instead of repeating them
Step 5: Get your decision
Decisions typically arrive within 2–3 weeks of your submission, by email.
